Advance Notice of Collection for Lourdes Pilgrimage, on 9th/10th February 2019

The theme for the World Day of the Sick invites us to reflect on the phrase “You received without payment; give without payment” (Mt 10:8).  Pope Francis in his recent letter on this year’s celebration reminds us that “generous gestures like that of the Good Samaritan are the most credible means of evangelisation.  Caring for the sick requires professionalism, tenderness, straightforward and simple gestures freely given, like a caress that makes others feel loved”.

This sense of service goes to the very heart of what it means to serve our sick, frail and elderly Pilgrims during our week in Lourdes.  It is only with your help and support that we can manage to take so many with us, who, in other circumstances, could not begin to contemplate the journey, let alone the financial burden that a week in France entails.

We continue to be aware that there are infinite demands on finite pockets, but we hope you will able to support us again this year, so that we, as a diocese, can serve so many of our vulnerable friends and family.
