Thank you St Wilfrid’s

St George’s would like to thank St Wilfrid’s for their hospitality on Sunday at Fr Rory’s birthday celebrations. We were made to feel very welcome. The tables were beautifully presented and the food was delicious. Thank you to all those who worked hard to make this occasion a happy one for Fr and both of our       communities. Well done.

Fr Rory’s Birthday Celebrations & CAFOD Harvest Appeal:

A very big thank you to everyone who donated goods for the Harvest Festival Mass. Hailsham Foodbank were delighted to receive your much needed contributions.

Another thank you goes to the 32 walkers who accompanied Fr Rory on the sponsored walk. Upon arrival at St Wilfrid’s we were greeted by parishioners from both parishes and shared a lovely birthday tea with him. Big thanks go to all those who worked so hard to make this day a success. Fr Rory really enjoyed celebrating his 75th birthday with us. God bless him.  All funds raised from the sale of fresh produce and the sponsored walk go towards CAFODS Harvest Appeal.  Please return any outstanding sponsor money by October 13th. To date we have raised an amazing £1,250 but we hope to   supplement this with the money raised for the Family Fast Day envelopes and St George’s charity breakfast on October 27th.  Thank you again to everyone who has made a contribution – we are very proud of our generous community.

4th October 2024

“Two important events on the way ahead”

The first one is at St Wilfrid’s but unfortunately it is very soon.  “The Celebrations for my Birthday and my Jubilee” which I deeply appreciate; were a distraction from this most important event.  It is a mass for the Sacrament of Healing.  In the past the focus of attention was on extreme unction; the primary tag “in danger of death”.   Also in confessions, now the sacrament of reconciliation has now replaced the emphasis upon confessions of mortal sins.  Now is the time and is a great opportunity to begin again with the focus on pardon and peace, healing and forgiveness.

The second event is at St George’s on Saturday morning with the Requiem Mass; a service of remembrance for our loved ones, our treasured memories and an important window to highlight our Gardens of Remembrance.

A new edition of the Lectionary

A new edition of the Lectionary, the book which contains the readings which are proclaimed at Mass, will come into use in England and Wales on the First Sunday of Advent 2024.
It will use the English Standard Version – Catholic  Edition for the scripture readings and the Psalms and Canticles for the Responsorial Psalms.
The Parish has ordered a new 4 volume Lectionary for each church, costing £695, and one Book of the Gospels (to be shared), costing £234.
Each volume can be noted with the name of any person making a donation towards the cost. If you would like to make a donation, please contact Bob Waters on 01323 847014.
People’s missals are also being changed to show the new translation of the Bible. Please contact Bob if you would like to order a new missal. The CTS price is £19.95 for a Sunday Missal or £9.95 for a Sunday  Missal just for 2025. The Daily Missals won’t be available until 2025.

St George’s Harvest Mass

St George’s Harvest Mass Sunday 6th October 2024

During the family mass we will be led by our children’s liturgy in celebrating the harvest and give thanks to God for our food, our farmers, and all who produce and supply it. Please bring your offerings of fresh harvest produce by 8.45am at the harvest mass. We will sell fresh produce afterwards to raise further funds for CAFOD. Gifts of tins & packet foods are requested during the month for Foodbank, please leave them in the labelled box in the porch as soon as possible. These will form part of our display. Most needed item list is at the back of church.           Thank you for your generosity.

Fr Rory’s Birthday Celebration

Fr Rory’s Birthday celebrations and CAFOD Harvest Appeal:

We all want to wish Fr Rory a very happy birthday. Come and celebrate with us this Sunday afternoon from 4pm at St Wilfrid’s Hall for a birthday tea and musical entertainment.

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored Father Rory for his walk between our two churches. There is still time to sponsor him using the QR code below or the sponsor form at the back of church. Please share the link with your family and friends and help us to reach our target of £500 for the CAFOD Harvest Appeal.  All sponsor money to be returned by Sunday, 13th October please. The walk leaves St Georges car park at 3pm. Please join us if you are able.

CAFOD Harvest Appeal:  CAFOD Family Fast Day is on Friday 4th October: a day we can pray, give, and eat simply in solidarity with our global family. This year’s appeal is focusing on supporting people like Daniel, a 21-year-old, who lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Daniel’s family didn’t always have enough to eat, despite both of his parents working. There was no money to send him to school. Now Daniel is carving a better future for his family with carpentry skills he learned in a CAFOD-funded training centre. Use the envelope in church or give online at cafod.org.uk/envelope.  The envelopes can be    returned to church for the second collection on 6th October.
