Our Parish Children’s Liturgy team would like to thank all our young children and their families who have joined us to regularly take part in the liturgy during 2022/23.  We are now taking a break over the summer but look forward to welcoming all the children back on Sunday 10th of September.  Please do continue when you can to attend our Church over the summer or if you are away perhaps you can send us a postcard bring back a souvenir you could tell us all about on your return. 

Our Parish Children’s liturgy runs weekly during both St George’s and St Wilfrid’s Sunday services during term time.  If you know any families who live locally and may like to join us do encourage them, we welcome everyone with a friendly smile, child friendly teaching of Gods Word, creative opportunities to demonstrate understanding and lots of    chances to have fun celebrating our faith with our friends.  For more information on Children’s Liturgy speak directly to any of the catechists or email Father Rory at the Parish Office for your details to be passed on to the team.

Sea Sunday – Thank you

Thank you for giving to Sea Sunday.  Our parish raised £184.20. We are on our way to our Father in heaven.  Jesus left us with all the guidance that we need; and the assurance that in my Fathers house there are many mansions.

As we have our summer break shortly, it is very timely.  The summer BBQ may be magical I hope, but there is nothing magical about the preparation.  So please God, it will get the support that is needed.  A great big thank you to the   social committee.  Our prayers are with Joan and all who are convalescing at this time.

Unfortunately we will not be holding an afternoon tea in July, but will keep you  posted about August.

For many years Sophie has worked tirelessly keeping our    website up-to-date.  As most of you are aware she has now moved away and although she pops back now and then it is not so easy for here with her new work commitments.

So we are looking for someone to take over this role.  Sophie is very happy to guide and support for as long as necessary.     Sophie assure me that it doesn’t require advanced technical skills!  Our hope going forward is that our website becomes less static and more fluid as our parish continues to flourish.  We would ask you to seriously consider if this is a way that you could contribute to our parish life and if so please contact Maria Hills on 07873759962.  Thank you.

This Sunday is the last Children’s Liturgy at St George’s before the school summer holidays.  Both St Wilfrid’s and St George’s Children’s Liturgy groups will then be taking a summer break. Lessons will resume on September 10th.  We wish all of our families a safe and happy summer.

“Following the synodal path”

We have been following the synodal path that Pope Francis has proposed so that the church may be able to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying.  I am confident that our work has been fit for purpose.  Returning to my constant sources of reference; in the building, the greatest work is done while outlining the plans and building the foundations, with the least to show for the work that is done.  It’s the same way with farming or gardening.  So please God, there are good signs that progress is being made and we can have confidence that things will continue to develop.

The first meeting of our parish council has been arranged and with it initial discussions of our way ahead. The role of ministries will be very important, also an awareness of how to work with surrounding parishes.  An appreciation of progress made by children’s liturgy and particularly the sacrament of confirmation and how we reach out to youth.  As we go on we can be more attentive to other responsibilities that will help our church to develop and grow.

Looking forward to my next trip home.

With our activities for the year coming to an end, a certain “thanks be to God”.  This time last year our focus was on our preparations to celebrate our centenary year at St Wilfrid’s, which worked out very good.  Hard to credit that was a year ago.  Our focus this year is our parish council and the options and opportunities it presents.

Deacon John has been a constant source of help  and I am sure it will remain a great help.  He raised the question, while Fr Rory is away, who should write his piece?  he suggested that the parish council could do this, this time.  This is very much in keeping with the preparation of our prayers of the faithful, which provided us with a distinct blessing over the months and years.

So far has raised £1,131 with a small amount still to come. Well  done to all who helped raise this wonderful amount.

Last week’s parish charity breakfast at St George’s raised £180 for Eastbourne food bank, our thanks to all who supported. The July breakfast will be held on Sunday 30th and will be raising money to help pay for Stations of the Cross in St Richards Catholic College Chapel which has recently been built to help with spiritual growth of the pupils.
