Thank you all very much for helping me celebrate my 50th. Your kind words, the cards, the super tea party and generous gifts made last weekend very special and it all meant a lot to me. Hailsham and Polegate is a very special community, one of which you all, with Fr Rory have built up over the years, your faith, love of the Lord and your care for each other shines out in so many ways. Thank you all, very much for your friendship and prayers.

Parish Afternoon Tea:

Parish Afternoon Tea Party in Celebration of Canon Paul Jennings Golden Jubilee at St. George’s:

We all had a marvellous celebration with Fr. Paul Jennings, in   honour of his Golden Jubilee on 12 July at St. George’s.

Thank you so much to our wonderful friends and fellow parishioners from St. Wilfrid’s and St. George’s, who did so much on the day, to make this a really special event.  Marylou played beautifully throughout the celebration,

Lesley Crowe provided the most delicious cake for the occasion and Mary O’Hanlon created a brilliant banner!

Everyone said how relaxed they felt, as we were all able to sit and enjoy the festivities, owing to all the preparation beforehand.

It is always good when we celebrate together, and create such a happy atmosphere!  Thank you all.

Deacon John Writes:

Last week I used an article from a diocesan newsletter. This week is a follow-up on that:

Luke’s Gospel in particular, has many accounts of Jesus and his disciples visiting the homes of the people they met and eating with them. In Luke 5 you will find the story of Jesus eating in Levi’s home and sharing it with his friends – tax collectors and sinners. In Luke 7 a sinful woman anointed the feet of Jesus at the dinner table so showing the host, a    Pharisee, up for his lack of hospitality. There is another occasion in Luke 10 where Martha and Mary show us the importance of spending time with our guests, not rushing around being the busy host. In Luke 11 we hear about Jesus dining with the Pharisees and lawyers and he rebukes them for their hypocrisy. There are more examples in Luke 14, 15, 19, 22 and 24 which I will leave you to look up for yourselves. They are all well-known examples involving a meal.
