We are joining with Missio, Aid to the Church in Need and Stella Maris in this Jubilee Year to pray the “Rosary of Hope” online on Tuesday 10 June at 7pm. You can register here to get the Zoom link.  All are welcome as we pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary together.

Pope Leo XIV said, “Our blessed mother Mary always wants to walk with us, be close to us, she always wants to help us with her intercession and her love.” He invited us to pray together, “for all of the Church, and for peace in the world.”

Aquinas and Friendship

‘AQUINAS AND FRIENDSHIP’ – Saturday 14 June at St      Pancras church in Lewes – FREE EVENT:

To mark this year’s 800th anniversary of the birth of St  Thomas Aquinas, Father Andrew Pinsent (now a Professor of Philosophy and Theology at the Athenaeum of Ohio in Cincinnati, and a priest of our own Diocese of Arundel and Brighton) will be speaking about ‘Aquinas and Friendship’. The conference will run from 11am until 1pm, beginning with coffee and including an opportunity for questions after the talk.  Until 2024, Father Andrew was Research Director of the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion.

“When the day of Pentecost came”

When the day of Pentecost came to the early church it had a powerful impact upon the early Christians, giving them strength and inspiration to go out into the world to proclaim the good news.  It is equally important to us today and we must be more and more aware of our need, but above all of God’s faithfulness.  In the words of Jesus “without me you can do nothing”.

With the power of Him who loves us, we will grow in faith and faithfulness as we respond to the challenges of time. 

A life long friend of mine, Fr Dick Kelly, has died.  Over fifty years ago he fished me out of a swimming pool in Rome, nearly more dead than alive, and we have faithfully lived on in service to the church in Christ’s glory.

Eternal rest grant unto him O’ Lord and let his soul rest in peace.

Stella Maris

Stella Maris (formerly called Apostleship of the Sea) is seeking one volunteer from this parish please to help with Sea   Sunday (which falls on 12/13 July this year) in this parish. This is the day when the Church comes together to pray for  seafarers, fishers and their families, and takes a second collection to support the work of Stella Maris. The volunteer will read out the appeal (which Stella Maris will provide) at the end of Masses that weekend. If you can kindly do this, please contact [email protected] or call 07887 893 763.

Related to that, all parishioners are warmly invited to an online webinar being run by Stella Maris on Thursday 19th June from 7:30pm to 9pm. You will hear about the work that Stella Maris has been doing with seafarers and fishers over the past year or so, including the use of the funds kindly donated on Sea Sunday last year. “Alleluia, Alleluia”

I will not leave you as orphans, says the Lord. 

I am going away and I will come to you and your hearts will rejoice, Alleluia.

The readings this week are incredible, very much fit for purpose.  This Sunday, St George’s quarterly meeting takes place after their mass, and we have our regular meetings at St Wilfrid’s.  Important communication from Fr Kevin, who is tasked with a large responsibility he is carrying out to the best of his ability, (and very well at that), I am sure it is very stressful for him.  He has been in communication with us, and agrees it has become clear we share a common view that July would be too soon to commence the new time schedule.  He relies on a sense of urgency and willingness to get it right and has made suggestions that we will engage in.

Please take away the newsletter and get all the nourishment that is offered to us by Jesus at this most important and fruitful time.

Arundel Cathedral Corpus Christi Trip:

Thank you to all those who have booked already to join us on our parish pilgrimage to Arundel Cathedral on the Feast of Corpus Christi, Thursday 19th June to see the Carpet of Flowers and join in the mass and procession. We have a few seats remaining; these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
