Fr Rory Writes:

Gone before us marked with the sign of faith.  This Sunday the Catenians host at St Wilfrid’s a Mass offered for the soul of Brian Winter.  We first give thanks that we were so blessed to have such a treasure; memories galore of the work he did, the kindness he showed and a warm presence.  As time moves on we will miss him more.

The funeral mass for Cardinal Cormac will be at 12noon on Wednesday 13th September at Westminster Cathedral.  Cardinal Vincent will preside and Archbishop Stack will be the preacher.  Because of numbers, admission is by ticket.  There will be a memorial mass at Arundel on Sunday 1st October at 3pm.  It is hoped that this will be a special occasion to give thanks for his time and his ministry as Bishop of our Diocese from 1977 until February 2000, when he was appointed tenth Archbishop of Westminster, in succession to Cardinal Basil Hume.  The ‘RENEW’ programme was one of the features from his time as Bishop in the Diocese, he had a deep sense of kindness, a talented musician and renowned for his hospitality.  Many would say it was a very difficult time to be a church leader.

On Monday morning at 11am we will have a Requiem Mass for Elizabeth Antonia Osborne “Elsa”.  It was one of the first sadness's, my first re-collection of her was from the 6pm Saturday evening Mass, she dressed rather elegantly.  Unfortunately Alzheimer's had established itself and it progressed drastically.  My prayers go out to her husband and daughters.

Eternal rest, grant unto them O’Lord, may they rest in peace, has been our prayer through the generations.
